chi-power GOLF brings you the fundamentals of effective motion, which begin with good posture, balance and relaxation, coupled with a quiet internal focus and deep, rhythmical breathing.
The difference this awareness can create in your golf swing and general performance around the course is subtle but immensely powerful.
Let’s review some fundamental principles of Tai Chi (the art upon which chi-power GOLF coaching is based) and show how they can help you develop a correct athletic address position for more consistency, accuracy and power off the tee:
- Empty your chest: emptying or hollowing the chest is the key to being more stable at address, as it relaxes the upper body, freeing the neck and shoulders and emptying the lungs – you’ll find that exhaling deeply is a natural part of this process which also releases anxiety and tension.
- Focus on your navel area: lowering your centre of awareness, by concentrating your mind at the navel, is a key principle of Tai Chi and extremely useful for your golf. As you focus on your navel (T’an Tien), you will find that you start to feel more balanced and relaxed, as your mind connects with your natural centre of gravity and you start to breathe more deeply.
- Sink into your footprints: Eastern wisdom tells us that your energy (Chi) follows your thinking, so if you focus on filling up your footprints, you will create a more stable platform from which to swing.
With just a few moments practicing this set-up drill – empty your chest, mind at your navel, sink into your footprints you will feel much more balanced and rooted and will in turn hit longer, straighter drives!
