“It’s senior club championship week. I have been doing my performance practice regularly over the last few months and I thought I would highlight its benefits. Last night I was 4 down after 11 and was holing nothing and struggling a wee bit with my game. I wasn’t panicking, I was breathing well but a combination of my poor play and my opponent’s great putting put me in a difficult situation. I kept the faith in my practice on and off the course. I holed from 6 feet at 12 then 8 feet at 13 to cut the deficit to 2. I made a mess of 14 and to be honest I thought my chance was gone. I pitched to two feet at 15 for another birdie then holed a 4 footer at 16 to stay in the game.2 down I hit perfect tee shots and approach shots at 17 and 18 to win both with pars. Yes, I was nervous over these shots but I had my performance practice to fall back on.
At the 19th I hit my second to 8 feet and after he holed from 12 feet for par to stay in the game, I calmy holed out for a 3 for the win. During the round there are conflicting moments- why am I not playing well? Why put all that work in and not execute the way I want? I kept going back to breathing looking at the scenery, listening to the birds and letting the negative thoughts pass through. To the doubters…it works! I would never have won without my performance practice”.
